Satolia is a popular childhood game in India where the aim is to dismantle a stack of pebbles by throwing a tennis ball at it. An easy, accessible, and affordable pastime, it has been a favorite of many generations on the subcontinent and surrounding areas. There is also a certain satisfaction and timelessness in touching pebbles, or skipping them into the sea. Though simple objects, their naturally smooth surfaces give them an everyday elegance.
The humble pebble became my inspiration in designing a toy. I explored various subjects, including trains and a doll house, before finally settling on a toy car – another childhood memory. Pebble combines the simplicity of its namesake and I hope it will evoke the same level of joy as skipping stones.
